Teamsters Canada Rail Conference Maintenance of Way Employees Division (TCRC MWED) members recently ratified an agreement with Ontario Northland. Valid from Jan. 1, 2011, to Dec. 31, 2014, the contract covers 173 Northeastern Ontario territory employees who are responsible for maintaining track, buildings and bridges.

The pact provides a cumulative wage increase between 3.5 percent and 5 percent over the four-year period, depending on cost-of-living increases. The contract also improves work rules, according to TCRC MWED.

Ontario Northland provides freight- and passenger-rail services, as well as motor coach, refurbishment and telecommunication services.

Meanwhile, MOW employees at the Georgia & Florida Railway recently voted in favor of joining the United Transportation Union. The railroad’s train and engine workers have been represented by the union since 2006.

Owned by OmniTRAX Inc., the 264-mile Georgia & Florida Railway serves shippers in south-central Georgia, and interchanges with CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern Railway.
