Transportation sector unemployment rate ticked up in April


The April transportation unemployment rate was slightly lower than the overall U.S. unemployment rate.

The unemployment rate for the U.S. transportation sector in April was 3.9% before seasonal adjustments, up 0.3 basis points from April 2025, according to a report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The April transportation unemployment rate was slightly lower than the overall U.S. unemployment rate, which was 4% unadjusted in April, up 0.1 basis point from April 2025.

Seasonally adjusted, April transportation and warehousing employment totaled 6.6 million, up 0.5% from March, but down 1.1% from April 2025, U.S. Department of Transportation officials said in a press release.

Rail transportation employment in April totaled 149,300, down 0.4% from March's level and down 4.1% from 179,600 in the same month last year.
