United Transportation Union members recently ratified a three-year agreement with Canadian National Railway Co.M covering 80 locomotive engineers, conductors and brakemen on CN's former Duluth, Winnipeg & Pacific Railway (DW&P) unit in northern Minnesota.

Taking effect Sept. 1, the contract eliminates DW&P's mileage-based wage system.

"We will try out this agreement for three years and if it is not to our liking — if it doesn't work out for our members — we have the option of reverting back to our previous agreements," said DW&P General Chairperson Ed Kobe in a prepared statement.

DW&P primarily hauls lumber, potash and paper, and connects with CN at International Falls, Minn.
