Arkansas Midland to assume operations on more UP lines

Arkansas Midland Railroad Co. Inc. (AKMD) recently filed an exemption notice with the Surface Transportation Board to lease from Union Pacific Railroad and operate 11.2 track miles in Arkansas.

The transaction includes a line between McGehee and Cypress Bend, and the Potlatch Spur between Cypress Bend and Arkansas City.

AKMD also would lease the yard at the spur’s east end and obtain restated incidental bridge trackage rights over UP’s line between McGehee and Dermott.

Formed in 1992 and operator of four former UP branch lines, AKMD interchanges with the Class I at North Little Rock, Gurdon, Lexa and Malvern. The 60-mile short line moves more than 35,000 cars annually.

AKMD is owned by Pinsly Railroad Co., which also owns and operates the 64-mile Florida Central Railroad Co. Inc., 37-mile Florida Midland Railroad Co. Inc., 27-mile Florida Northern Railroad Co. Inc. and 17-mile Pioneer Valley Railroad Co. Inc.
