Bombardier Transportation recently announced it acquired Transportation and Transit Associates L.L.C.’s (TTA) passenger-car overhaul business.

TTA, which rebuilds transit-rail vehicles, systems and components, will retain its new car and component businesses. Bombardier will acquire the land, equipment and facilities at TTA’s Kanona, N.Y., site, as well as certain overhaul contracts.

“There is a growing need for flexible, third-party rail services in this market as transit operators face mounting pressure to increase service efficiency and control costs,” said Mike Hardt, vice president of Bombardier Transportation’s North American rail services business, in a prepared statement.

Bombardier currently overhauls passenger cars at plants in Dansville, N.Y.; San Diego; Thunder Bay, Ontario; and Sahagun, Mexico.
