Cando Rail & Terminals on Friday announced it completed the acquisition of Savage Rail from Savage Enterprises LLC. The companies had announced the transaction in February.
Savage Rail helps establish Cando Rail as a leader in first- and last-mile rail operating services and terminal infrastructure in North America, and forges a significantly expanded footprint in the United States and Canada, Cando Rail officials said in a press release.
The combined company now operates 36 rail-car storage, staging and/or transload terminals, three short lines and 80 first- and last-mile rail service operations. The company has access to all six Class Is.
“With Savage Rail now part of Cando, we are operating a broader, more connected platform across North America that strengthens how we serve our customers,” said Cando Rail President and CEO Brian Cornick.
For Savage Rail, the closure of the transaction solidifies its strategic focus on food and fuel industries, and unlocks new growth opportunities for several of its businesses, company officials said.
Cando Rail will maintain its global headquarters in Manitoba. The company plans to establish a new U.S. headquarters in Salt Lake City. Mike Miller, who previously served Savage Rail as senior vice president and rail services leader, now will become Cando Rail’s chief commercial officer.
