Portage County, Ohio, recently filed an exemption notice with the Surface Transportation Board to acquire a 7.2-mile line from the Portage Private Industry Council Inc.
Known as Conrail's "Freedom Secondary" line, the segment and connecting side tracks run between Kent and Ravenna, Ohio.
Per an agreement, Akron Barberton Cluster Railway Co. — a subsidiary of regional Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway Co. — would continue to operate the line for the county.
