Caltrain last week launched a new website to gather public input on the design of the railroad's new electric trains.

The site provides information on the trains' features, including electrical outlets at every seat, bike cars, and improved location and destination information.

"The evolution and modernization of the Caltrain system is long overdue," said Caltrain Executive Director Jim Hartnett. "We're looking forward to hearing feedback that will help inform what that evolution looks like, and we are excited to share more information about how much better the Caltrain rider experience will be."

Caltrain is still awaiting approval for a $647 million federal grant to fund its electrification project, which includes procurement of the new electric trains.

The $1.1 trillion federal spending bill signed by President Donald Trump on May 5 includes $100 million for the project.

The railroad can't use those funds until the Federal Transit Administration signs off on the full funding grant agreement.
