MTA Metro-North Railroad yesterday unveiled the eighth locomotive in its Heritage Series designed to honor veterans' service and sacrifices.

Metro-North surveyed all veteran employees to gather design input and formed a 12-member committee of veterans to select the final design, authority officials said in a press release.

The resulting design includes military uniform patches of all U.S. Armed Forces. All decals, including the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Metro-North logos, the locomotive numbers and the heritage fleet emblem, have been designed as embroidered uniform patches. The front is wrapped in an American flag, while the sides of the locomotive feature silhouettes of iconic military equipment.

Following a ceremony held yesterday, Metro-North transported the locomotive to Grand Central Terminal in New York City to be on display for Veterans Day today and tomorrow. It will then tour Metro-North's employee facilities before entering revenue service at the end of November, MTA officials said.

All eight of the Heritage Series locomotives are on service on the Metro-North Hudson, Harlem and New Haven Lines. The first Heritage Series locomotive was created in May 2023 and replicates Metro-North's original locomotive design. Other wraps in the series include tributes to predecessor railroad locomotive designs and Metro-North's own workforce, MTA officials said.
