On June 29 at 11 a.m. (EDT), Progressive Railroading will present a free webcast on fuel management strategies.

The presenter will be Jeremy Robinson, Iowa Northern Railway Co.’s manager of operations planning and information technology, who will discuss the short line’s work with various idle reduction systems in an effort to reduce fuel costs. In addition, Robinson will review plans under way for an education program aimed at making crew members more aware of the effects of their train handling techniques, and explain how the use of GPS can track fuel performance by each engineer to help improve fuel efficiency.

To be moderated by Progressive Railroading Associate Editor Angela Cotey, the webcast will describe technology’s role in combating rising fuel costs, analyze the impact of monitoring fuel performance and identify potential ways to incentivize crews to be more fuel conscious.

The “Fuel Management” webcast is sponsored by HOTSTART and ZTR Control Systems L.L.C. To obtain more information on the event or to register, follow this link.
