SEPTA's commuter-rail schedule returns to normal

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority's (SEPTA) commuter-rail system on Monday resumed regular weekday service after months of modifications due to problems with the agency's Silverliner V fleet.

In July, SEPTA sidelined all 120 of its Silverliner cars after crews discovered cracks in the vehicles' equalizer beams. The cars make up a third of the agency's commuter-rail fleet.

Vehicle repairs are ongoing, with the cars being returned to service as they're fixed. As of Monday, 50 of the Silverliners were in service.

The agency was able to resume normal weekday schedules by returning those cars to service and using leased vehicles from Amtrak, New Jersey Transit and the Maryland Transit Administration, SEPTA officials said in a press release.
