Alaska Railroad schedules open house, groundbreaking for bridge project

As the Alaska Railroad Corp. (ARRC) prepares to begin construction on the Tanana River Bridge, it has scheduled two public events to showcase the project.

The railroad plans to hold an open house on Aug. 23 and a groundbreaking ceremony on Sept. 28 in Salcha, Alaska.

The bridge is the first phase of the larger Northern Rail Extension (NRE) project designed to expand track infrastructure from North Pole/Eielson 80 miles southeast to Delta Junction. The first phase of the three-year project entails the construction of a bridge across the river and an associated levee near Salcha. The environmental impact statement was completed in 2010.
