Georgia DOT considers replacing bridge over CSX line

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is seeking public feedback on a proposal to replace an 81-year-old wood bridge over CSX track in Tyrone.

Without replacement, the CR 61/Coastline Road bridge — which is in poor condition — might continue to deteriorate. Replacing the bridge would improve safety and capacity, GDOT officials said in a statement on the department's website.

The proposed bridge would be replaced at its exiting location to minimize environmental and right-of-way impacts along the project corridor.

The project now is in the concept phase. After public comments are received on March 24 and reviewed, GDOT might revise the proposed plan or choose a no-build alternative.
