Replacement of the Bridge Street Bridge in the New York City-area hamlet of New Hamburg will begin May 13, MTA Metro-North Railroad officials announced earlier this week.Built in 1930, the bridge carries two traffic lanes over two Hudson Line tracks and the New Hamburg Station parking lot in the town of Poughkeepsie. The bridge will be closed to vehicles until the replacement project is completed at year's end. The new bridge will feature aesthetic concrete parapets with black ornamental steel fences on top as well as a new sideway. Roadway and drainage improvements are planned, and a 12-inch water main on the bridge will be supported during construction, and then replaced as part of the $3.6 million project, Metro-North officials said in a press release.
