MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) yesterday began a series of maintenance, cleaning and repair work on the Q line as part of the agency's FASTRACK program.

The program incorporates various elements of the ongoing Subway Action Plan, which addresses key delay-causing incidents involving signals, track and power.

FASTRACK work will be performed on weeknights on the Brighton Q line in Brooklyn through Sept. 15. The work will resume Sept. 18-22.

That segment of the line will be closed overnight on those dates, which will enable maintenance workers to repair and replace track, third rail, and electrical and signal components. Crews will remove debris from the tracks and under or around the third rail, NYCT officials said in a press release.

"FASTRACK enables workers to do more in less time because it effectively allows us to consolidate maintenance forces in a concentrated area and perform proactive maintenance," said Wynton Habersham, senior vice president for the Department of Subways.

The next FASTRACK overnight closure will be on the 1, 2 and 3 lines for consecutive weeks in October.
