The Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC) has proposed rehabilitating 30 miles of rail line operated by the Indiana & Ohio Railway.
Owned by the village of Greenfield, the so-called Greenfield Line is located in Highland and Clinton counties. The proposed project calls for the replacement of 20,000 ties, installation and tamping of ballast and replacement of grade crossing surfaces.
Construction is expected to begin in summer 2021. The project is necessary to ensure safe and efficient operation of trains over the line, ORDC officials said in a press release.
A portion of the work will occur in a special flood hazard area of the East Fork Little Miami River in the village of New Vienna. About .57 acres of floodplain are involved. Based on the project's scope, the impact to the floodplain are anticipated to be minor and result in no rise in local flood levels, ORDC officials said.
A final floodplain analysis will be made available on the ORDC website, they said.
