The Oregon International Port of Coos Bay is seeking bids for the "2012 Major Track Rehabilitation Project,” the largest reconstruction phase to date for the rehabilitation of the 134-mile Coos Bay line, according to the port.

The scope of the work calls for replacing up to 90,000 ties and 60,000 tons of ballast, upgrading crossing surfaces and completing rail alignment work. Bids are due June 12.

The port purchased the Coos Bay line — which runs between Coquille and Eugene, Ore. — in 2009 after it had been closed since 2007. The line is undergoing about $30 million worth of repairs and partial service was re-launched in October 2011. ARG Trans operates the line as the Coos Bay Rail Link.

Freight-rail connections have been restored in several locations between manufacturing plants and Class I lines, port officials said in a bid notice. Full service is expected to be restored in late 2012, they said.
