Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) last week began work on the pocket track, a third light-rail track on Tasman Drive in Santa Clara, Calif. The additional track will enable VTA to store three-car trains and put them into service quickly to meet increased service demands for special events and the beginning of local Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) service in late 2017, VTA officials said in a press release.“This will be of tremendous value to our customers, and will result in people getting to and from this area more smoothly, especially when there’s a special event taking place at Levi’s Stadium,” said Mark Robinson, VTA's chief engineering and construction officer.
