After six months in operation, Canadian National Railway Co.'s container train service between Prince Rupert, British Columbia, and the U.S. Midwest is meeting the Class I's expectations.

CN is providing fifth-morning container availability in Chicago and sixth-morning availability in Memphis, Tenn.

In addition, the railroad recently opened a new $6 million grain distribution center in Chicago that enables CN to containerize export grain for overseas markets in what otherwise would be empty containers, said Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing James Foote in a prepared statement. The terminal can handle grain, corn, soybeans, distillers dried grains and other dry grain products.

The railroad offers intermodal service from the Chicago facility to the ports of Prince Rupert; Vancouver, B.C.; Montreal; Halifax, Nova Scotia; and New Orleans.

"This new Chicago facility will add critical mass to our backhaul traffic capabilities for export markets in Asia," said Foote.
