Add two more transit agencies to the list of passenger-rail providers posting monthly ridership gains.

In June, an average of 309,000 passengers boarded Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) Metro Rail trains each weekday, up 12.8 percent compared with June 2007's average.

For the second-straight month, the Metro Gold Line, which runs between downtown Los Angeles and Pasadena, set a ridership record at 26,338 average weekday boardings, a 31.8 percent jump compared with June 2007's total. The Green Line operating between Norwalk and El Segundo posted a record 44,034 average weekday boardings and the downtown L.A.-to-Long Beach Blue Line recorded an average of 84,353 weekday passengers.

During FY2008's fourth quarter, LACMTA's rail ridership rose 7.1 percent compared with the same FY2007 period.

Meanwhile, the Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon carried 8.75 million passengers on its light-rail and bus systems last month, a 4.9 percent increase compared with June 2007's total. The agency set an average weekly light-rail ridership record of 764,000 passengers (up 4 percent year-over-year) and average weekday ridership record of 118,200 (up 3.8 percent).
