LACMTA to analyze transit options for Harbor Subdivision corridor

Later this month, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) will hold a series of community meetings to discuss the alternatives analysis study for the Harbor Subdivision Transit Corridor. The study is required by the Federal Transit Administration for projects that could be funded through the New Starts process.
LACMTA will evaluate potential options along the 26-mile freight-rail corridor —which the agency purchased in the early 1990s — including light rail, bus rapid transit and diesel/electrical multiple units. The agency also will study a "no build" alternative and transportation systems management improvements.
In addition, LACMTA will analyze potential alignment and transit improvement options outside the immediate Harbor Subdivision right of way, and examine financing options other than traditional transit funding sources.
