Santa Clara VTA receives funding allocation for real-time information initiative

The San Francisco Bay Area Metropolitan Transportation Commission's Programming and Allocation Committee recently approved allocating $2.5 million to the Santa Clara County Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) for the agency's Real Time Information (RTI) project.
The $6 million project would give riders access to real-time arrival and departure times via the Internet, by phone and at various transit centers, stop locations and stations. In addition, schedule information, route descriptions, fare information and bulletins would be more easily available, and VTA would post electronic information display boards and similar signs throughout Santa Clara County.
RTI would build on VTA's Advanced Communication System, which was implemented in 2003. Real-time information is scheduled to be available to passengers by summer 2010.
The full commission is expected to approve the funds by month's end.
