The International Union of Railways recently signed a development contract to implement the first phase of technical specifications for Interoperability – Telematics Applications for Freight (TAF-TSI).

Sweden’s ELOG AB won the first-phase information technology (IT) contract for TAF-TSI, which focuses on freight-rail transit time reliability, shipment visibility, and secure communications of operational data between infrastructure managers and operators.

The project calls for the development of common system components and hosting, operations and management IT functions in six years. TAF TSI is designed to enable messaging and local systems to communicate data between freight-rail industry stakeholders to improve reliability and shipment information quality.

“With this revolutionary system in place, European rail stakeholders and related interested parties will be able to share and receive information using cutting-edge technology, providing the first important technological stepping stone for the new liberalized European rail market,” said ELOG Managing Director Liran Lotker in a prepared statement.
