The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas (METRO) recently awarded a $1.5 billion contract to Parsons Transportation Group to build four light-rail lines in the Houston area.
The $632 million initial phase of the contract calls for utility work in two corridors, building a light-rail overpass at Harrisburg, constructing a Service and Inspection Facility, and purchasing 29 light-rail vehicles from CF USA Inc.
Parsons will be responsible for designing, building, operating and maintaining the new light-rail lines, which will total about 20 miles, according to METRO.
