L.A. MTA to present transit corridor study findings to the public

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) will hold five community meetings this month to update the findings of an alternative analysis study for the Harbor Subdivision transit corridor.
A 26-mile freight-rail corridor, the Harbor Subdivision traverses southwest L.A. County from Vernon to Wilmington. In the early 1990s, LACMTA purchased the portion of the corridor between Redondo Junction and Watson Yard, along with several other rights of way, to develop the region’s rapid transit system. Together with a planned Crenshaw Transit Corridor, the Harbor Subdivision would establish a north-south transit link.
Since September 2008, the agency has been evaluating various alternatives, including light rail, commuter rail, self-propelled rail vehicles and bus rapid transit.
In spring, LACMTA held a series of public meetings to obtain feedback on four project alternatives that will undergo a more detailed technical analysis for the duration of the study.
