Yesterday, New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jay Walder, MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) President Helena Williams and local officials held a ceremony in Brooklyn to open LIRR's new $108 million Atlantic Terminal Pavilion.

The three-story terminal features a new ticket office, atrium, passenger waiting area, and police and employee facilities. The terminal serves as a major transit hub where LIRR connects with 10 MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) subway lines and five bus lines. About 25,500 LIRR riders and 31,600 subway riders will use the facility each day.

The project began in 2002 and was completed in two phases to coordinate work with NYCT and a private developer. The terminal was funded by the Federal Transit Administration and LIRR.
