The Association of American Railroads (AAR) recently named Thomas Farmer assistant vice president of security, effective April 5. He will join the association’s safety and operations department.
Farmer most recently was acting general manager of mass transit for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), where he spent six years in various TSA-rail related positions, including senior counsel-intermodal programs. Prior to joining the TSA, he served as a judge advocate in the U.S. Air Force.
Farmer will be responsible for heading the AAR’s and rail industry’s efforts to boost freight-rail security in coordination with various federal agencies.
“[His] unique background and experience will provide real value as we continue to expand the industry’s work in the field of security,” said AAR President and Chief Executive Officer Ed Hamberger in a prepared statement.
