advertisement
On Saturday, VIA Rail Canada Inc. and the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) reached a tentative three-year agreement, averting a strike the union planned to launch on Sunday if the parties failed to negotiate a contract.
The agreement must be ratified by union members; the ratification process will take about two weeks, according to the CAW.
CAW represents about 2,200 VIA Rail employees who work onboard and in stations, including telephone sales offices, maintenance centers and administrative offices.
