SEPTA unveils first Silverliner V train
advertisement
The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) recently placed its first Silverliner V Regional Rail train in service. The three-car train will be dispatched to different lines throughout the system so all regional rail passengers can ride it, according to the agency.
SEPTA is purchasing 120 new cars under a $274 million contract with Hyundai-Rotem USA, which has opened a new facility in South Philadelphia to complete fabrication and assembly work. The company ships the train shells to Philadelphia from its South Korea plant.
The new cars will add capacity on the regional rail system and enable SEPTA to retire 70 cars that are more than 40 years old.
The Silverliner V cars feature large windows and interiors, mid-car doorways, digital panels displaying trip details and interior flat-panel screens that provide travel updates.
