Connecticut to order 42 more M-8s from Kawasaki
advertisement
On Monday, Connecticut Gov. Jodi Rell announced the state plans to purchase an additional 42 M-8 rail cars for MTA Metro-North Railroad’s New Haven Line. The state previously purchased 300 of the cars from Kawasaki Rail Car Inc.
Since late 2009, Kawasaki has delivered 22 M-8s. The cars currently are being tested in the New Haven Rail Yard, as well as on runs between New Haven and New York.
The M-8s feature regenerative braking systems, thermally insulated car bodies, and more efficient window sealants and gaskets, as well as brighter interior spaces, high-back seating, larger windows, and an automated announcement and signage system.
