On Dec. 10, Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (GWI) commissioned a second GenSet for the Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad Inc.
The “home-built” GenSet features a Cummins QSK-19 engine kit from Brookville Equipment Corp., said GWI Vice President-Motive Power David Powell in an email. The second unit concludes a Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program-funded project through which GWI built two GenSets using kit technology, he said. The company commissioned the first GenSet for the Buffalo & Pittsburgh in July.
GWI is building a third GenSet — which also will feature a Brookville QSK-19 engine kit — for the Ohio Central Railroad. The project is funded by American Recovery & Reinvestment Act-Diesel Emissions Reduction Act dollars. Work is slated to conclude within the next three weeks at the Ohio Central’s Coshocton, Ohio, shops, said Powell.
