Maine DOT seeks short line to operate former MMA lines
advertisement
The Maine Department of Transportation is accepting proposals from short lines interested in operating a 233-mile line and branch lines the state plans to purchase from the Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway Ltd. (MMA). Proposals are due by Jan. 19, 2011.
MMA had sought to abandon a line between Millinocket and Madawaska, as well as branch lines to Presque Isle, Houlton, Fort Fairfield and Limestone. Earlier this year, the state entered into a purchase and sales agreement with MMA to acquire the lines.
The Maine DOT is seeking an independent short-line operator to provide freight service along the lines. More information on the request for proposals is available online at http:www.maine.gov/mdot/cpo/rfps/. Questions regarding the RFP can be emailed to Nathan Moulton, director of the Maine DOT’s rail program, at nathan.moulton@maine.gov.
