USDOT approves TIGER grant agreement for Minnesota's Union Depot

Yesterday, the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) announced it signed a $35 million grant agreement with the Ramsey County Regional Railroad Authority to renovate the historic Union Depot in St. Paul, Minn. The funds will be provided through the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) program.
The TIGER funds will help defray the cost to renovate the facility, and restore tracks, driveways and sidewalks. The entire $237.5 million project also includes co-locating Amtrak, intercity and local bus, and light-rail services, as well as taxis at the station.
The upgrades “will help create a vibrant transportation center, revitalize downtown and promote economic growth with greater access to the city’s businesses,” USDOT officials said in a prepared statement.
