The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) is proposing a test program that would charge a $2 or $3 parking fee at nine stations. One of the goals of the program is to better manage demand so the lots don't fill early each weekday, according to a Metro blog post. Additionally, charging the fees would raise revenue to help pay for maintenance and security at the lots. The fees could also discourage non-transit users from parking in lots, agency officials said. Attendants at the lots will have handheld TAP card readers to verify which patrons used Metro transit versus those who didn't.Parking at the stations is limited to a cumulative 4,753 spaces. In March, Metro staff plan to present a complete operating proposal, budget and fee resolution adjustment for the pilot program to the board.
