Las Vegas Monorail serves 50 millionth rider

The Las Vegas Monorail Co. recently marked its 50 millionth rider since service was launched in 2004.

The 3.9-mile system “ranks among the best rail systems” in the United States based on the number of riders carried per mile of track and revenue earned per mile, said Ingrid Reisman, the company’s vice president of corporate communications, in a prepared statement.

“We’re honored to help thousands of people travel the busy Las Vegas Strip every day, and will continue to provide the highest quality of service of our customers,” she said.

In 2010, the Monorail reduced greenhouse-gas emissions by more than 37 tons and eliminated an estimated 2.4 million vehicle miles that would have otherwise congested Las Vegas’ roads, Monorail officials said. When large conventions are held in the city, the monorail carries an average of 70,000 people into and out of the Las Vegas Convention Center during the course of each four-day event, they said.
