advertisement
VIA Rail Canada Inc. recently completed upgrades to Union Station in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The project included major repairs to the station roof and train shed, including upgrades to make the more than century-old station energy efficient while maintaining its historic design.
As a result, the station project was recognized by the Building Owners and Managers Association of Manitoba with a BESt Level 2 certification for energy efficiency.
The $3 million project was funded by the Canadian government’s $923 million investment in VIA Rail for improvements to its facilities, equipment and infrastructure. The program was funded in part by Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
