The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) honored seven public transportation providers with the 2025 Rail Safety, Security and Emergency Management awards during the APTA Rail Conference held last week in San Francisco.

Nominations were evaluated on program effectiveness, benefit level, innovation and transferability, and winners received either a "Gold Award" or "Certificate of Merit." Awards are categorized into commuter/intercity rail, light rail/streetcar and heavy rail.

Gold winners for safety included the Maryland Transit Administration, Metropolitan Transportation Authority in New York City and Caltrain in California. A full list of this year's winners in safety, security and emergency management can be viewed here

“These awards celebrate the innovation and dedication of public transit agencies and their employees who work daily to protect their passengers, colleagues and communities they serve,” said APTA President and CEO Paul Skoutelas in a press release.
