Amtrak, Metro-North to resume service on flood-damaged lines

Today, Amtrak will resume daily Empire Builder service in Minot, N.D., following work to repair a station damaged earlier this year by severe flooding.
The work included repairs to Minot’s historic station and the establishment of a waiting area and ticket counter in an area ordinarily used for baggage, Amtrak officials said in a prepared statement. Checked baggage service will remain suspended at the station until additional repairs are made to the building, they said.
Meanwhile, MTA Metro-North Railroad will restore full service on the Port Jervis line on Nov. 28. The service will be restored a full month earlier than previously anticipated and under budget, Metro-North President Howard Permut said Monday in a prepared statement.
The railroad had to rebuild a 14-mile section of the line, which was heavily damaged by flooding associated with Tropical Storm Irene in August.
To show appreciation to Metro-North riders, the railroad will permit customers who purchase a December monthly Port Jervis ticket to ride for free during the last three days of November, he said.
“Metro-North appreciates the patience of its 2,300 Port Jervis Line customers during the past few months,” said Permut.
