Atlanta Streetcar's Executive Director Tim Borchers plans to resign from his post by May 8, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The story did not cite a reason for his resignation.

First hired in April 2013, Borchers called the streetcar project "historic and transformative," and attributed the project's success to Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed as well as the streetcar team, the paper reported.

Atlanta is now searching for a replacement, according to the paper.

The system first opened in late December 2014 and will remain fare-free for the rest of the current year, according to an earlier announcement from the city.
