Bi-State Development Agency begins second phase of streetscape improvements

advertisement

Bi-State Development Agency recently began the second phase of a streetscape-improvement project on a 1.4-mile portion of Delmar Boulevard.

The $2.1 million project includes reconfiguring the boulevard to one traffic lane in each direction and providing parking on both sides of the street, widening sidewalks, and adding lighting, landscaping, public art, pedestrian crosswalks and traffic signals. Sidewalks and curbs also would be repaired, and handicapped-accessible ramps installed at intersections.

The agency expects improvements to spur transit-oriented development, and make the area more accessible for transportation modes, including MetroLink trains.

The project will be funded through grants from Federal Transit Administration, Federal Highway Administration, a community development block grant, the city of St. Louis and Bi-State.

The project’s first phase included constructing landscaped medians. The second phase is scheduled for completion in fall.
