Bombardier Transportation recently inked multi-million deals for transport systems in Luxembourg, France, and Madrid, Spain.

AENA Sept. 10 signed a $96 million contract with Bombardier for Phase II of its people mover project at Madrid’s Barajas Airport, which includes the supply of 19 vehicles and all related electrical and mechanical systems for the one-and-a-quarter-mile line. Vehicle delivery is scheduled to begin in first-quarter 2003.

Meanwhile, a consortium comprising Bombardier and Alstom Transport Sept. 6 received a $62 million order from the French National Railways (SNCF), commissioned by the Luxembourg National Railways (CFL), for 12 three-car electrical trainsets TER2N New Generation. Bombardier would receive $13 million to manufacture the cars and 36 power bogies.

The bi-level, regional electric trains are slated for cross-border service that CFL is developing between Govier, Belgium; Luxembourg-ville, Luxembourg; Thionville and Metz, France. Deliveries are scheduled to take place between February 2004 and February 2006.

Bombardier also announced Sept. 6 that SNCF selected Bombardier to supply 500 high-capacity regional trains. SNCF plans to finalize a contract by year-end, with the first of the three-car articulated trains entering service in first-quarter 2004.
