Brightline has partnered with Valencia College in Orlando, Florida, to prepare students for rail industry jobs.

The private passenger-rail company plans to fill 175 jobs in Central Florida, including technical positions in operations and jobs specific to the rail fleet, Brightline officials said today in a press release.

Brightline's recruiters and Valencia officials are developing talent through a 22-week industrial automation technician course, which will include modules on maintenance, mechanical, electrical, hydraulics and pneumatics.

The course will provide students with nationally recognized industry credentials, Brightline officials said. The program also will recruit workers for Brightline contractors Siemens Mobility and Herzog.

So far, Brightline has hired 10 Valencia College graduates. Together, the passenger-rail company and its contractors plan to fill 150 highly skilled technical positions at Basecamp, Brightline's $100 million train maintenance facility that can service up to 16 trains simultaneously. Workers will be paid a minimum $20 an hour, Brightline officials said.

The positions are being filled ahead of Brightline opening service to Orlando from Miami. Construction is 90% complete, officials added.

"Once Orlando service begins, it will remain an ongoing team effort to maintain our 10 trainsets, hundreds of miles of track and our full-service vehicle maintenance facility, Basecamp," said Brightline Chief Mechanical Officer Tom Rutkowski.
