The British Columbia provincial government this week issued a request for qualifications (RFQ) for the third and final contract of the Surrey Langley SkyTrain project.

The RFQ addresses SkyTrain trackwork design and installation, as well as design, installation and integration of electrical systems, telecommunications and automatic train control, provincial officials said in a press release.

The RFQ will close Jan. 23, 2023. Up to three teams will be selected for response to a request for proposals.

The project calls for a 10-mile extension of TransLink's Expo Line from King George Station to Langley City Center. It will be the first rapid transit expansion south of the Fraser River in 30 years. RFQs for building the elevated guideway, roadworks, utilities and eight new stations were issued earlier this year.

Major construction is slated to begin in 2024. The extension is expected to open for operations in 2028.
