CTA kicks off extended service pilot for Purple Line Express

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) yesterday began a pilot program offering an additional Purple Line Express train on weekday evenings between the downtown Chicago Loop and Wilmette, Ill.

The pilot will run through July 10, and provides an additional downtown-bound train departing from Wilmette's Linden Station at 8 p.m. and arriving at the Loop station at approximately 8:50 p.m.

The pilot will cost $7,000 to implement, according to a CTA press release.

CTA officials estimate it will save riders as much as 10 minutes of travel time by eliminating a transfer.

"The CTA is constantly seeking to improve service to customers and this new pilot will allow us to test demand and attract riders for additional evening service on CTA’s Purple Line Express," said CTA Chief Planning Officer Carole Morey.
