Chicago Transit Authority’s (CTA) board last week approved a $38.3 million contract for T.Y. Lin International Great Lakes Inc. to provide planning and preliminary engineering services for the Red Line extension project

Under the contract, the firm will prepare a final environment impact statement for the project that will extend CTA’s Red Line 5.3 miles between 95th and 130th streets in Chicago.

The work will enable the agency to advance through the project development phase, which is the next step of the federal funding process, CTA officials said in a press release.

During project development, CTA will ask the Federal Transit Administration to begin evaluating the Red Line extension project for potential selection for funding under the federal New Starts grant program.

Also last week, CTA approved a $20 million contract to allow eight small business enterprise firms to work as general engineering consultants and provide expertise on a number of CTA projects.

The eight firms are American Surveying & Engineering PC, Atlas Engineering Group Ltd., The Roderick Group Inc., Design Consulting Engineers Inc., GSG Consultants Inc., Altus Works Inc., Muller & Muller Ltd. and Studio ARQ LLC.
