The Chicago Transit Authority last week announced plans to "revitalize" 29 rail stations this year as part of the agency's "Refresh and Renew” station improvement program.

Created in 2019, the program helps keep stations in a state of good repair through routine maintenance, CTA officials said in a press release. In 2023, crews will perform an estimated $6.5 million worth of repairs and improvements at stations located across seven routes, as well as at some Loop Elevated stations.

The stations slated to receive improvements are:

  • Red Line: Sox-35th, Howard, Sheridan, Addison and Clark/Division;
  • Blue Line: Jefferson Park, Irving Park, Belmont, Logan Square, Division and Monroe;
  • Green Line: Laramie, Cicero, Indiana and 35th-Bronzeville-IIT;
  • Brown Line: Armitage, Chicago, Francisco, Montrose, Irving Park and Addison;
  • Orange Line: 35th/Archer and Halsted;
  • Pink Line: 54th/Cermak and Pulaski;
  • Purple Line: Linden and Main Street; and
  • Loop Elevated: Merchandise Mart and Washington/Wells.

Crews will inspect each station to identify repairs needed immediately or in the near term, CTA officials said. Such work might include repairs to concrete, utility and plumbing lines; removal of outdated fixtures and equipment; and smaller cosmetic upgrades.
