The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) and Mayor Lori Lightfoot recently unveiled the designs for four Red Line stations that will be reconstructed as part of the CTA's Red and Purple Line modernizations (RPM) Phase One project.
The project is the largest transit investment in CTA history and the latest of several Red Line improvement efforts over the past decade.
The CTA will build the Lawrence, Argyle, Berwyn and Bryn Mawr rail stations as well as rebuild and repair track structures. The new stations will include elevators, escalators, wider platforms, improved amenities and be fully accessible stations to customers with disabilities.
The $2.1 billion project is the first part of CTA's plan to rebuild the Red and Purple lines between Linden and Belmont. Phase One work will benefit the entire Red Line by addressing overcrowding and delays with modernizing a century-old infrastructure. The Red Line is the CTA's busiest route, registering almost 70 million riders in 2019.
