Rail News: Passenger Rail

Caltrain fare hike takes effect

Caltrain's adult base fare rose 50 cents yesterday, under a previously approved fare increase.

The fare hike increases the price of day passes, eight-ride tickets and monthly passes, Caltrain officials said in a press release.

The fare changes will help meet the rising costs of rail operations and maintenance, Caltrain officials said, nothing that railroad does not have a dedicated source of funding.

Caltrain's board approved the fare change in December 2015. The railroad last adjusted fares in October 2014, when one-way cash fares rose 25 cents and day pass cash fares rose 50 cents.
