Caltrain in July marked two consecutive months in which its ridership rose higher than 75% year over year.
In July, ridership climbed 78% to 1,073,754 rides compared to July 2024 ridership. In June, ridership jumped 76% from June 2024's level, officials from the California commuter railroad said in a newsletter.
Average weekday ridership in July was 39,813, up 70.9% over last year; average Saturday ridership reached 24,818, up 123.1%; and average Sunday ridership was 19,699, up 105.9%, Caltrain officials said. The increase from 2024 to 2025 brings Caltrain's ridership closer to pre-pandemic levels, a benchmark for measuring ridership recovery, they said.
Caltrain operates along California's San Francisco Peninsula, through the South Bay to San Jose and Gilroy.
