Caltrain seeks public feedback on long-term strategy

Caltrain is soliciting public input on the agency's new strategic plan.

Since last fall, Caltrain officials have been working with stakeholders and members of the public to develop draft guiding principles, goals and objectives for the plan. In April, staff presented the draft to the board, which now is seeking feedback on the more detailed proposed objectives, Caltrain officials said in a press release.

Caltrain last updated its strategic plan in 2004, when average weekday ridership was 28,000 and Baby Bullet service had just been introduced. Since then, average weekday ridership has increased to 52,000 and Caltrain is moving forward with a modernization program that will electrify and expand its service by 2019, agency officials said.

The draft plan focuses on seven guiding principles: safety, service, infrastructure, finances, transportation and land use, partnerships and social responsibility. The public can review and comment on the draft principles, goals and objectives on the Caltrain website.
